September Meeting 2024

Courtney Stiles spoke about the mission, goals and plans of First Tee of the Sandhills. The mission is to teach kids healthy habits and build character. Over 2000 kids are served annually from rural counties of Cumberland, Hoke, Lee and Moore counties. First Tee has partnerships with golf courses, elementary facilities and clubs/organizations. Courtney spoke about the Swing Fore Success after-school programs for 2nd through 5th graders. She played interactive games with the luncheon attendees, naming Pulitzer Prize winners, Heisman Trophy winners and people who positively impacted your life; she summarized that diverse people have commonality and we may not win prizes or trophies, but when we positively impact kids’ lives, we celebrate. Ms. Stiles presented First Tee’s long-range plan to serve a larger community with a site of a golf facility and learning labs. The plan has four phases at a cost of $4 million with a desirable land site of 20 acres in the eastern Moore County/Vass/Cameron areas.
